History Main Page

Author Bass provides background in the early life of General Francis Marion who became famous during the American Revolution as the "Swamp Fox". With considerable research, Bass develops the career of a farmer, turned military genius. His nickname was appropriately given, as Marion was in the midst of the British the entire three and a half years of occupancy without ever being captured.

Bass paints Marion as a slender, compassionate man a bit older than those who he commanded. All who served under him had great respect for the General.

Bass covers most all of the battles provided in an earlier book report on "The Life of General Francis Marion" by Horry and Weems, in a bit more detail. This is excellent reading and a remarkable story about the patriotism of Francis Marion and the men who fought with him.
