Search millions of pages of archival material that Footnote.com has scanned and indexed so that you can rapidly find and print out the pages needed for documentation of service or lineage. This subscription site (about 60 $/year) includes several free databases -- click the What's Free? link at left. Using a link on that page you may (without registering) search through free items and print images from them at no charge.

Warning: Do not use your AOL browser to search Footnote.com -- incompatibilities can cause lock-up. Use an alternative browser, such as Internet Exploreer.

Sample search: Type in the search box everything inside the square brackets: [Godlieb AND Fry]. This gives 32 "hits", most from the Pennsylvania Archives. If you use "AND" when searching for names you will get "hits" for both Godlieb Fry and Fry, Godlieb.

Search major subscription sites (having annual fees) to see what they have on their free "sampler" databases for documentation of patriotic service and lineage, along with the citations which you can use to look up and get copies of the pages from a library or archives facility (or online from one of the sources linked here). Find out-of-print books that GoogleTM has scanned and indexed. In many cases page images for the whole book have been posted on the Web for free viewing and printing.

Search through titles, abstracts, and full articles or books from professional conferences or publishers using GoogleTM Scholar. You might find a historian's presentation or book on an event in which your patriot participated. Try "Cowpens 1781 Tarleton".
